The 25th Brandenburg Festival of New Music

intersonanzen 2025
t r a n s r e a l
25 Years of intersonanzen
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the new music festival intersonanzen reflects on its past while looking ahead. Under the theme transreal, the festival will open its doors for 11 days, from May 8 to May 18, 2025. Showcasing high-caliber contemporary music at renowned art venues in Potsdam—including DAS MINSK Kunsthaus, Museum Barberini, and museum FLUXUS+—it continues its dialogue with the arts. Additionally, a special concert will be held at Palais Lichtenau.
Contemporary Chamber Music Meets Visual Art. With a focus on string quartets (Neo, Kairos, Sonar) and the ART Ensemble NRW chamber orchestra, alongside other top international ensembles such as Black Pencil, LUX:NM, and El Perro Andaluz, intersonanzen 2025 presents 18 concerts and performances. The festival fosters interaction with visual artists, shaping spaces—musical, sonic, real, surreal, virtual—transreal.
The latest technological developments in modern media and the revolutionization of workflows through AI create unprecedented opportunities and risks. The question of individual perspective is being redefined. Does this give rise to a new personal reality, virtuality, or parallel world?
In a panel discussion led by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Liedtke, composers, artists, and experts—including current Music Fund fellows—will share their experiences with AI tools and explore the media of today and tomorrow.
In celebration of the festival’s 25th anniversary, a documentary showcasing the 25-year history of intersonanzen will be presented.
The opening day on May 8, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the war—or, as it was more often called in the past, the Day of Liberation. To commemorate this occasion, we are honored to welcome Nele Hertling for a conversation. She is the daughter of composer Hanning Schröder, whose family hid a Jewish couple in their home during the Nazi era, saving them from certain death.
The renowned NeoQuartet from Poland will perform its string quartet In Memoriam: Lied der Moorsoldaten.

Teufelsberg Holographic Quadrophony Installation by Titus Nessel with Gebhard Ullmann (saxophone) and Philipp Gerschlauer (saxophone) incl. concert
The sound installation can be experienced until May 18th during the opening hours of the FLUXUS+ Museum.
This recording in the dome of the former flight control and listening station on Berlin’s Teufelsberg is based on decades of development work. For the first time, it is possible to reproduce the entire spatial impression of the recording situation accurately and realistically with four speakers. As a result, listeners feel as though they are right in the middle of the space where the music is being created.
Concert Gerschlauer-Ullmann Murals
In their sound paintings, Gerschlauer | Ullmann explore the sonic positionality of microtonality and improvised music. Starting from visual wall paintings that function as graphic scores, fragile, multilayered soundscapes emerge.
